Since it was founded in 1970, the Henley Symphony Orchestra has become one of the leading amateur orchestras in the country. It has benefited enormously from the inspiration of its three conductors, James Stobart, Marcus Dods, and more recently Ian Brown, who continues to bring his infectious enthusiasm for music-making to the Henley orchestra.
The HSO has travelled to Henley's twin towns of Falaise (most recently in 2007) and to Leichlingen (most recently in 2005). The orchestra has commissioned new music, and has tackled some of the more ambitious works of the orchestral repertoire including symphonies by Mahler, Bruckner and Richard Strauss. This season's programme for 2008/09 includes many of the popular classics.
The Henley Symphony Orchestra is a Registered Charity (No. 271849)
